Courtroom in new Ashland City Hall to be dedicated to longtime judge

ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The courtroom in the new Ashland City Hall will be named for the judge who served the town for nearly three decades.

The Ashland City Council unanimously approved a resolution officially dedicating the courtroom at the new city hall to the late Judge James William "Bill" Stinnett.

Stinnett, who died in January, served as the Ashland City Municipal Court Judge for nearly 30 years, up until he was 95, according to the resolution.

Ashland City Mayor Gerald Greer said Stinnett "gave a great deal of his life to our city," during the April 8 city council meeting.

Greer added that, at the time of his passing, Stinnett was the oldest-serving judge in the state of Tennessee.

Prior to his time on the bench, Stinnett also served as the Ashland City Town Attorney, the resolution states.

"WHEREAS the council appreciates Judge Stinnett's unwavering commitment to the Town of Ashland City and wishes to acknowledge his dedication to upholding justice and ensuring that all people who appeared before him were treated fairly and equitably," the resolution states, the council voted unanimously to dedicate the courtroom in his memory.
