HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WKRN) — On Monday, all students at Christian County High School, Hopkinsville High School and Gateway Academy headed to their respective schools for the first day, but come this time next year, that won't be the case.
In August 2021, the Christian County Board of Education voted to consolidate the three into one career academy-style high school. The school will be organized into a freshman academy and three college and career academies.
“It will give students an opportunity to have all of their classes in one place,” said Johnna Brown, director of communications for Christian County Public Schools (CCPS). “All of our students will be under one roof on one campus, which will eliminate the need for bussing across town for programs and that sort of thing.”
Construction on the 327,000-square-foot facility located on Lovers Lane and Fort Campbell Boulevard began in September 2023 and has continued since then. The new Christian County High School has a projected opening enrollment of around 2,100 students, but will have the capacity to hold 2,500. It’s set to be completed by spring 2026 and fully operational for students for the 2026-27 school year.
"Everything has been right on schedule," Brown said. “Our target date has not changed, and we're super excited about this school year with our legacy, and really just focusing on our current high schools, and then, of course, transitioning to one new high school for next school year.”
Ken Carver is the lead administrator of the new high school, using his more than 20 years of experience in public education to bring together students and staff from across the district.
"I’m humbled and honored to have this type of opportunity to impact kids in a positive way," Carver said.
CCPS said the new school will fully integrate career and technical education with traditional high school and college prep curriculum into one facility.
"We're really trying to encourage kids and provide them opportunities to see what it is that they're interested in beyond high school, whether that's being college ready, whether it's going into the military, going directly into the workforce, allowing those kids opportunities to explore, prepare, and hopefully they'll find what they want to do and their passion,” Carver said.

Carver told News 2 the school represents a new pathway forward for their students.
"This new facility is just going to create even more opportunities and provide them the facilities and the resources that our kids and our teachers deserve," Carver said.
