NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A park in Green Hills now has a brand new piece of equipment designed to offer fitness options.
Metro Parks and Recreation announced Green Hills Park has opened a brand new outdoor fitness amenity. The adult exercise equipment station was installed on a safe and durable poured-in-place rubber surface, according to Metro.
"This thoughtfully designed fitness rig offers opportunities for 12 different exercises, ranging from pull-ups and lef raises to assisted squats and even a medicine ball target," Metro Parks said of the equipment.
The station even includes instructional guides for each component onsite.
"This new addition reflects a shared commitment to making Nashville's parks vibrant, inclusive spaces where visitors can gather, play, and stay healthy," Metro Parks said.
According to Metro Parks, the equipment was made possible thanks to the Friends of Green Hills Park.
Friends President Lora Fox told News 2 the process to get the equipment took about a year, with fundraising to purchase the equipment taking several months.
According to Fox, the money was raised and equipment purchased by the end of 2024, but the permitting and approval process took several months after that. Regardless, Fox said the Friends are excited to have brought the new equipment to the park.
"The great thing about this exercise equipment is that it can be used by adults for exercise or it can be used by kids for hanging upside down and climbing and things like that, so it's really something that meets lots of needs of the community," she told News 2. "It's a great addition to the park."
Multi-use equipment like the new structure have been a long-time desire for the community, according to Fox. She said the Friends ran a survey several years ago asking what kinds of amenities the community would like to see in the park, and adult fitness equipment was ranked highly on the list.
"There's a nice walking path on the area that goes around—it's a third of a mile—and people said it would be nice if we could strength exercises in between laps," Fox said.
In the future, Fox told News 2 the Friends will look into potentially fundraising for more fitness stations like the one installed at Green Hills Park.
"I think adding more exercise equipment and exercise stations is something that people would really like," she said. "That's what they've indicated to me when they come up to us at our different events that we have. We're hoping to be able to add some more."
