BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Within Brentwood's Maryland Farms development, you'll find old southern charm and new trending businesses.
Maryland Farms was once an agricultural hub belonging to J. Truman Ward, then the owner of Nashville’s WLAC radio. In the mid-1900s, there were over 100 horses training on the farm's 400 acres.
In 1942, a 7,500 square-foot mansion was built with bricks salvaged from a previous historic building. Since the year 2000, the mansion where you'll find the restaurant Mere Bulles, after their move from downtown Nashville.
The restaurant brings a southern dining experience to the area. The team says they have many long-time, repeat customers who celebrate their biggest moments within the mansion's walls.
“Many people celebrate 50th wedding anniversaries, rehearsal dinners, and these are once in a lifetime things that people trust us with," said Brandon Styll, director of operations at Mere Bulles. "We take that so seriously.”
Mere Bulles is located at 5201 Maryland Way.
“I love the history of this restaurant, I love the energy when it’s full," said Mere Bulles Owner Steven Smithing. "This is kind of a one-and-only.”
A short drive away at 5024 Harpeth Drive, you'll find Swig, the drive-through soda-fountain chain. A first for Tennessee, the Brentwood location opened in February.
They sell "dirty soda," or soda with flavor shots, creams and/or fruit purees. The combinations are endless.
"You take your favorite soda and you add whatever twist you want on it," said Brad Kunce, Swig franchise co-owner.
Brothers and co-owners Brad and Mark Kunce are from Utah, where Swig originated and gained immense popularity. They brought the franchise to Tennessee after seeing the business opportunity.
"One of the first sites we were looking at, we were just in the parking lot with our Swig shirts on, and we had multiple people stop us like, ‘Is Swig coming here?'," said Mark Kunce. "That’s when we initially knew, okay we’re onto something.”
No matter the weather or the day, the drive-through line has been wrapped around the block.
"It hasn’t stopped," said Brad Kunce. "It’s been amazing seeing the community come together and support us, considering we haven’t done any marketing, it’s simply just been the public getting us out there.”
They also have another location in Spring Hill and plan to open a total of 15 throughout the Greater Nashville area.
