The officers aided two victims, only identified as a 47-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman.
The woman claimed that she and the male victim were trying to leave a parking lot in a Nissan Altima when she drove near a group of people. People in the group began yelling at her, and several women approached her car and began striking her through the window of the Altima.
The male victim got out of the car and began firing shots into the air in an attempt to end the conflict.
The female driver then reportedly heard someone else firing a gun in response to the male victim's shots. The 47-year-old was shot multiple times, and the 44-year-old was shot in the shoulder.
Witnesses identified the suspect's vehicle, a gray Infiniti, at which point one officer was able to stand in front of it and order the driver to stop. The suspect, Jeremi Ford, 39, continued to travel towards the officer, police said.
The release stated that the officer moved out of the way and Ford pulled into a parking lot. The suspect and three women who were in the car with him were arrested.
Ford was identified as the shooter but refused to be interviewed by police. Police said he has prior felony drug convictions and is now facing multiple charges as a result of the shooting. He is being held in Metro Jail on a $560,000 bond.
Both victims were transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center for their injuries and are expected to recover.
