8 minors charged in connection with vandalism incidents related to football game, police say
SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — Several minors have been charged for their connection to vandalism incidents in Spring Hill that are believed to be related to an upcoming football game, officials said.
The Spring Hill Police Department (SHPD) said the incidents took place on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
Authorities reported a large "mortar-style" firework was thrown at a house and exploded close to the residence. In addition, police added that bushes at the home were covered in toilet paper and set on fire, which was later extinguished by the homeowner with a garden hose.
Another home and vehicles were "pelted with a large amount of eggs" during another incident, police said. Those involved reportedly caused a felony amount of vandalism damages.
According to SHPD, eight juveniles were charged with vandalism and taken to the Williamson County Detention Center for their involvement. Meanwhile, two other individuals—who are of legal age—have warrants pending for their arrest.
The police department is advising folks to "not go overboard with any activities" ahead of the Summit High School and Independence High School football game.
"Don't do something to another person's property that you would not want done to you own," concluded police.
The football game is slated to take place at Independence High School at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1.

TN pain clinic owner convicted of $35M fraud involving 'medically unnecessary injections'
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Tennessee man was convicted by a federal jury Thursday on more than a dozen charges for his role in a $35 million fraud scheme involving "medically unnecessary injections," officials said.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), 72-year-old Michael Kestner, of Nashville, owned, operated and managed pain clinics in several states, including Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia, which were all branded under the name Pain MD.
During his tenure, officials said Kestner fraudulently billed federal health care programs approximately $35 million for "medically unnecessary injections, which were administered over the course of eight years to a population of opioid-dependent patients."
According to evidence that was presented at the trial, Kestner is not a physician and instead pressured nurse practitioners and physician assistants employed by Pain MD to provide back injections to patients who came to the clinic seeking opioid treatment.
Additionally, witnesses reportedly testified that patients who refused to accept regular injections risked being sent sway from the clinic and suffering withdrawals from their opioid addiction.
The DOJ said evidence revealed that the injections were billed as Tendon Origin Insertion injections (TOIs). However, almost none of the patients were diagnosed with pain in their tendons, officials said.
To keep the billings up, Kestner allegedly sent emails ranking the practitioners "production" against one another, criticizing providers if they had a "below average performance." He is also accused of ignoring notices, including a lawsuit, from insurance companies alerting him that his clinics were billing injections wrong.
Through the practices, Pain MD reportedly became Medicare's single highest biller of TOI procedures in the country, outranking the next highest biller "eightfold."
Kestner was convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and 12 counts of health care fraud. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 27, 2025, and faces up to 10 years in prison for each count, according to the DOJ.
The matter is being investigated by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, Defense Criminal Investigative Service Southeast Field Office, the Department of Veterans Affairs of Inspector General and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

'Operation Bond Watch': Middle TN officials trying to prevent those charged with violent crimes from illegally owning guns
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- The acting U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, Thomas J. Jaworski, announced Wednesday a new initiative aimed at prosecuting unlawful gun possession by people previously charged with murder and attempted murder.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), "Operation Bond Watch" seeks to deter individuals who are out on bond for certain crimes -- including first-degree murder, felony murder, second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and attempted second-degree murder -- from illegally owning firearms and potentially endangering the community.
Officials said if they discover someone on bond for a serious violent crime has unlawfully possessed a gun, "federal prosecutors will, where the evidence supports it, swiftly seek appropriate federal charges against those individuals" under this program.
"The goal is to keep the community safe from gun violence and to prevent those on bond while charged with murder and attempted murder from illegally carrying guns while awaiting their day in court," Jaworski said.
"Breaking cycles of violent gun crime by repeat offenders is essential to the safety of the Nashville community," Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake explained. "Operation Bond Watch is an important tool in a system of checks and balances between a defendant’s arrest and ultimate adjudication of the case. I am grateful to Acting U.S. Attorney Jaworski and our strong partners in the ATF and FBI for their commitment in helping us hold violent criminals accountable."
"Protecting the public is at the core of our ATF mission," stated Special Agent in Charge Marcus Watson of the Nashville Field Division for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). "We, along with our law enforcement partners, stand ready to work tirelessly to prevent those who choose to illegally possess firearms from wreaking havoc on law abiding citizens."
"The FBI is committed to working with our law enforcement and prosecutorial partners on Operation Bond Watch," Special Agent in Charge Joe Carrico of the FBI Nashville Field Office said. "Here in Tennessee, the FBI will continue to use all the tools at our disposal to deter defendants who are out on bond for serious violent crimes from illegally possessing firearms. Everyone deserves to live in a community free of gun violence."
Officials said a Nashville man out on bond for a 2021 murder was arrested on suspicion of committing another murder back in April, adding that both cases are still pending. However, the DOJ did not identify this man in the statement released on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
"We believe in the presumption of innocence and a right to a fair trial," Jaworski said, "but we also believe that the community should be protected from individuals unlawfully possessing firearms when there is the potential to cause destructive violence."
According to officials, prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Nashville have previously charged people on bond for murder with unlawful weapons possession offenses.
For example, 30-year-old Mark Ellis, of Clarksville, was out on bond for first-degree murder when he was arrested in 2022 with a 9mm pistol and a pound of fentanyl during a drug deal, the DOJ reported. Ellis was convicted in 2023 and sentenced the following March to 25 years in federal prison.
Through "Operation Bond Watch," officials said more federal resources will be used against people who illegally own guns while on bond for serious violent crimes.
"Our commitment to the safety of our community has been steadfast," Jaworski stated. "This new initiative will hopefully deter those awaiting a trial on serious charges from illegally carrying a gun, which is better for everyone."
According to the DOJ, this initiative is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, as well as make neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Nashville's 'Most Wanted': Man wanted for stalking, harassment
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man accused of stalking and making repeated harassing calls is the latest addition to the Metro Nashville Police Department's (MNPD) "Most Wanted" fugitives list.
This list is updated every Wednesday on the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) Criminal Warrants Division’s Facebook page. According to detectives, those featured on the list are often considered to be some of the “most violent” offenders in the city.
Most of the fugitives on the "Most Wanted" list are wanted for homicide or sex crimes, but three new names on the list involve a different set of charges, per MNPD.
Since the list was launched in October of 2022, more than 134 who have appeared on it have been apprehended, largely thanks to tips from the public, police said.
Last week, two men who made the "Most Wanted" list for multiple sex crimes were arrested. Adeyemi S. Adebogun, 49, and Diego Camaja-Santiago, 24, were both brought into custody by the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.
Adebogun was indicted on several felony charges related to the alleged sexual abuse of a child, including aggravated sexual battery involving a victim under 13.
Camaja-Santiago was wanted on felony warrants for two counts of aggravated rape with bodily injury, two counts of statutory rape, and a probation violation.
Here are the names who appear on the department's "Most Wanted" list for Oct. 16, 2024.
1. Dadiri Muhina

Dadiri Muhina, 23, is still considered the “Top Most Wanted” fugitive, according to the MNPD. This is his sixth week in a row atop the list.
According to police, Muhina is wanted after having been indicted by a grand jury on multiple felony charges. The charges against him include first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, solicitation to commit first-degree murder, attempted murder and tampering with evidence.
Court records show the charges stem from a September 2021 shooting that killed 16-year-old Ja-Niya Birdsong and injured another 17-year-old. Family members told News 2 multiple young men were involved in an argument with the two teens before shots rang out.
Birdsong died at the scene in her grandmother's driveway in the Paragon Mills neighborhood. She was a junior at Hillsboro High School and hoped to become a hairstylist, according to her family.
📧 Have breaking news come to you: Subscribe to News 2 email alerts →
While initially the only link to a suspect was a light-colored sedan seen leaving, six people—including Muhina—have since been identified.
As their investigation progressed, detectives said they found text messages between the suspects regarding their plans to destroy the car used in the alleged homicide. Muhina and the other suspects are also accused of conspiring to hire someone to kill a witness.
At least one other suspect in the shooting was taken into custody. However, Muhina has remained at large. Anyone with information on Muhina’s whereabouts is asked to contact the MNPD at 615-862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
2. Adrian L. Cameron

Adrian Cameron, 19, has been on the run since April, according to the MNPD. He's been at the top of the "Most Wanted" list for several months as police continue to search for him in connection to the death of 32-year-old rapper Chris King.
King was shot and killed just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20. Investigators said King was hanging out with friends in an alleyway between Hayes and Church streets when they were approached by three other men.
While the interaction began "cordial," according to King's friends, the three eventually tried to rob them. That's when gunfire rang out, injuring King and his 29-year-old friend.
Both were brought to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but King did not survive.
Cameron, who was out on bond for the 2021 murder of 50-year-old Josh Evans at the time, was identified as a suspect in the shooting days later.
Officials believe Cameron cut his ankle monitor shortly after the shooting. Cameron had just turned 17 years old when police said he turned himself in for Evans’ murder. Evans was found shot and wrapped in trash bags in the Cumberland River in Sept. 2021.
Cameron was arrested again for gun charges in Rutherford County less than four months after turning himself in for the 2021 murder. He’s now charged with criminal homicide in connection with King’s death, as well as failure to appear.
However, efforts to locate him have been unsuccessful. Police said his last location is unknown.
3. Lagarrion L. Blacksmith

Lagarrion Blacksmith, 35, has been toward the top of the department's "Most Wanted" list for nearly a year as police continue their search for him.
He was initially added to the list Nov. 29, 2023, after investigators were able to connect him to a deadly shooting that took place outside a Dickerson Pike bar last year.
Officers found 35-year-old Chancellor Eddins lying on the ground just outside of Trvth Lounge on Feb. 18, 2023. He had been shot and later died at the scene. Another man who had also been hit by the gunfire was able to give officers an account of what happened.
According to police, the injured man told them he and Eddins had gotten into an argument with the suspect inside of the bar. Then, shots were fired as they left the location. At the time, the identity of the alleged shooter was unclear.
Months later, investigators announced Blacksmith had been identified as a suspect. On Nov. 22, 2023, officials said arrest warrants had been issued against Blacksmith for criminal homicide, attempted homicide, and felon in possession of a handgun.
However, efforts to locate him have also reportedly been unsuccessful. His last location is unknown.
4. Raceme L. Crutcher

Police have been looking for Raceme Crutcher, 22, since July 2023, when he was named as one of two suspects in a deadly Fourth of July shooting.
Officials said the shooting happened at the Fallbrook Apartments on Dellway Villa Road. Etabo Malanda, 16, was reportedly standing on the porch of an apartment when two armed individuals came from around the corner and confronted him.
Malanda allegedly tried to pull out a pistol that was inside his hoodie, but he was shot. Police said he died shortly after he was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
According to investigators, four guns were recovered from the apartment, including one that was reported stolen. Crutcher and 17-year-old Jaylin Brown were reportedly connected to the crime through witness accounts.
Investigators also obtained surveillance footage and additional information from community members that they said pointed to Crutcher and Brown as suspects in the case. Officials believe the motive may have been an ongoing dispute between the suspects and Malanda.
Brown was taken into custody on Aug. 31, 2023, after police said they caught him driving a stolen car. However, Crutcher is still on the run. He was added to the “Most Wanted” list on Nov. 15, 2023. His last location is unknown.
5. Fredy Sanchez-Argueta

Fredy Sanchez-Argueta was added to the list last week. According to police, Sanchez-Argueta is wanted on outstanding warrants for 12 sex crimes charges.
Charges against him include seven counts of sexual battery by an authority figure, two counts of statutory rape, two counts of rape, and one count of aggravated sexual battery involving a child under 13.
His last known location was in South Nashville.
6. Jamal Alhakari

Jamal Alhakari, 41, is wanted by the MNPD after having been indicted by a grand jury on multiple sexual abuse charges involving a victim who was unable to give consent.
The charges against him include aggravated kidnapping, sexual battery and sexual battery involving a person with a mental defect or that was incapacitated, according to the police department.
Alhakari was added to Nashville’s “Most Wanted” list on Sept. 11. Officials said his last location is unknown.
7. Yoshua C. Simmons

Yoshua Simmons, 26, is wanted on multiple outstanding warrants for various felony charges, according to police.
The charges against him include aggravated rape with bodily injury, especially aggravated kidnapping of a victim under 13 years old, aggravated kidnapping with bodily injury and aggravated assault with serious bodily injury.
Simmons was added to the list five weeks ago on Sept. 18. Authorities said his last location is unknown.
8. Charles H. Holt

Charles Holt, 59, is a new addition to the list this week. According to police, Holt is wanted for vehicular homicide with reckless conduct and reckless endangerment-motor vehicle-weapon.
His last location is unknown, according to the department.
9. Keosha Glenn

Keosha Glenn, 21, is another new addition to the list this week. According to MNPD, Glenn is wanted for multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of assault with bodily injury, assault with the fear of bodily injury, and aggravated animal cruelty.
Her last location is unknown, according to police.
10. Richard L. Jarrett

Richard Jarrett, 20, is wanted for multiple domestic charges, according to the police department. This is his first time on the list.
Jarrett's charges include burglary, stalking, harassment through repetitive calls, domestic assault with fear of bodily injury, and a probation violation.
Both the stalking and harassment charges are Class A misdemeanors in the state of Tennessee. The burglary charge is a felony.
Police said Jarrett's last known location was Antioch.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of any of the "Most Wanted" fugitives is asked to notify the MNPD by calling 615-862-8600 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.

Metro Schools to add 4 new magnet programs
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Four existing schools in Davidson County will transition to whole-school magnet programs by next year, opening up their doors to students throughout the district.
Director of Schools Dr. Adrienne Battle said Metro's magnet schools attract students interested in unique themes like languages, the arts and sciences.
The new magnet schools include:
- Granview Elementary School: Spanish immersion Magnet for Pre-K trough 5th grade.
- Paragon Mills Elementary School: Spanish immersion Magnet for Pre-K through 5th grade.
- Stratton Elementary School: International Baccalaureate Spanish immersion Magnet for Pre-K through 5th grade.
- Brick Church Middle School: Early College Magnet for grades 5th through 8th.
The new programs are supported through a five-year federal grant from the magnet school assistance program for nearly $15 million.
Dr. Battle said these locations were selected based on their potential to reduce minority group isolation and improve socioeconomic diversity.
"This has been a demand, this has been a need, to make those programs really come to life on behalf of the families that we serve," explained Dr. Battle.
Students who live within the zone for a magnet school just need to register if they want to be a part of the program.

Man charged with attempted homicide following downtown Nashville stabbing
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A man was arrested Thursday after another man was stabbed multiple times in downtown Nashville earlier this week.
According to a Davidson County affidavit, the victim was sleeping in an alleyway in the 500 block of 4th Avenue South when he was woken up just before 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 by a man he knew as "Chicago." The man allegedly yelled at the victim and stabbed him with a large black knife several times.
When police and first responders arrived at the scene, the victim was unable to give a statement due to the amount of blood he lost from being stabbed in the chest, neck, and left arm, the court document says. The victim was brought to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for surgery.
A woman next door reportedly heard someone yell, "never steal anything from me again," so she went outside to see what was happening. Per the affidavit, she initially thought it was just a fight with the victim lying on the ground and the suspect standing over him, hitting him several times, but then the suspect passed by the woman as he walked away and she noticed the large black knife in his hand, as well as the blood covering the victim.
Police said they spoke with the victim on Tuesday, Oct. 8, but he told them he only knew the suspect, who sold him drugs, as "Chicago."
After watching street camera footage from before and after the incident, authorities said they found video of the suspect in the same clothing the witness described walking to and from the crime scene.
On Thursday, Oct. 10, law enforcement stopped a man matching the suspect's description -- including the same missing tooth and the same necklace from the video -- in the 700 block of Rep. John Lewis Way and brought him to the Metro Nashville Police Department's Midtown Hills Precinct, according to the court document.
While being interviewed, the man reportedly identified himself as Jimmy Wilson and confirmed he knew the victim, but he denied assaulting him.
"When confronted with video Mr. Wilson did admit the images were him but he was only in the area to use the restroom and did not have any physical altercations with the victim," the affidavit states.
Due to the detailed description provided by the victim, the footage from cameras in the area, and the suspect's statements, authorities said they took Wilson into custody.
According to officials, the 59-year-old is being held in the Downtown Detention Center for attempted criminal homicide and contraband in a penal institution (intoxicant/controlled substance).
No additional details have been released about this case.

Pieces of history discovered at Andrew Jackson's Hermitage
HERMITAGE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A mystery at Andrew Jackson's Hermitage may have been solved, adding to the history of the seventh president's home.
The Hermitage was preparing to bury power lines on site and hired archeologists with TRC Companies to detect where they could do so without hitting other utilities or unknown elements underground.
📧 Have breaking news come to you: Subscribe to News 2 email alerts →
During the process, radar reportedly detected several elements that needed further examination. When the archeologists excavated trenches, they said they found what is believed to be the remains of both Jackson's carriage house and stable.
"Jackson was a famous horse breeder and a horse racer," said Tony Guzzi, chief of preservation at Andrew Jackson's Hermitage.
A photo from 1867 documents the stable, which likely held three to four horses and two carriages. Guzzi said it was destroyed by a fire around 1870 and the uncovered remnants of the stable still have signs of the burn.
After all of these years, Guzzi said it's been unclear to historians where the carriage house and stable sat on the property.
“I actually thought this building ran in a different direction, and finding it and locating it had proven that theory is wrong, it runs the absolute opposite direction," Guzzi explained.
"Everything that we’ve uncovered, we have to meticulously map out," said James Greene, an archeologist with TRC Companies. “This project as well as various projects that are going on at the Andrew Jackson Foundation are trying to help interpret history, and then preserve history.”
After the site is documented, the trenches will need to be refilled for preservation purposes. Guzzi said they will add signage and photographs identifying the area for visitors.

Live: How you can help after Helene
Editor's note: The video player above will be replaced by a live stream featuring rescue stories and relief updates from the Red Cross beginning at 3 p.m. ET.
(NEXSTAR) - It's been nearly a week since Hurricane Helene unleashed deadly fury on the Gulf Coast and caused flooding, food shortages and power disruptions still being felt by communities in the storm's path.
Nexstar, the parent company of this news station, covers the daily news in cities and towns across America, including several in the path of last week's storm. Our reporters in the field witnessed firsthand the heroism of emergency personnel and the resilience of communities that come together to rescue and rebuild. We also know the importance of partnering with organizations dedicated to providing basic necessities in the hours after a disaster. That's why, as with previous emergencies, we are partnering with the Red Cross.
Over the first weekend alone the Red Cross deployed 1,400 disaster workers and created 70 temporary emergency shelters to house and feed those in need. Their work continues to assist with Helene and the next disasters requiring immediate response.
On Thursday, Oct. 3, Nexstar is hosting an hour-long special at 3 p.m. ET in the video player at the top of this page. Reporters who rode out the storm will explain what Americans faced in the hours after Helene arrived. Red Cross representatives will also explain how your donations are being used to help Americans across 10 states get back on their feet.
Please consider joining our efforts to support the Red Cross by following this donation link and contributing to storm relief.

'I was just a target': Pedestrian hit by car reflects on recovery, implores people to pay attention
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — "Challenging" was one of the first words that came to mind for Betsy Williams when asked to describe what it was like recovering from being hit by a car.
Having recently come from a meeting with a trainer, who she said worked to increase her leg and core strength, Williams told News 2 that she had a bone graft surgery just this past April in relation to the crash.
In addition, Williams had a traumatic brain injury, injuries to her right eye which still gives her trouble, and a broken neck. Her medical team told her that it was a "miracle" she was not paralyzed.
Nearly two years ago, Williams was walking from her home to a Nashville Chamber of Commerce meeting. She crossed James Robertson Parkway at 7th Avenue at 6:25 in the morning. It was a typical walk for Williams — until she was struck by a car. Years later, Williams still deals with the consequences.
"It takes more effort just doing the smallest, slightest things," Williams said. "It just takes more."
Williams' was one of five stories featured in a screening hosted by Metro Nashville's Vision Zero on September 23. According to the organization's website, the group envisions a future with zero roadway deaths on Nashville's streets. The September 23 event featured short films highlighting lives impacted by pedestrian crashes.
"We are slowly killing each other through infrastructure choices that fail to take into account how we can all move around the city safely," Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell said at the event. "The reason that I was proud to commit publicly to Vision Zero several years ago when I was on Metro Council...is because one pedestrian death is too many, especially when we think of these as preventable."
O'Connell said that in 2024 so far, at least 38 pedestrians have died as a result of crashes. Williams told News 2 that she was thankful that she was not one of those fatalities when she had her crash in 2022. She added that she supports Vision Zero's mission and the city leaders that are working toward making it a reality.
"It's going to take a while because the hardest thing to change is people's behavior," Williams said. "You can change laws, you can change streets, you can change designs, you can change all sorts of stuff — but people's behavior is the last thing that changes and it's the hardest thing to change."
Williams admitted that before the crash, she was "as guilty" as other drivers about speeding and driving while distracted, but the crash changed her life and her outlook as both a driver and a pedestrian. Her main message for everyone on Nashville's roads: slow down and pay attention.
"I was just a target," Williams added. "Pedestrians are targets and we need to remember that we're a target and we have to take precautions to make ourselves more visible to drivers who are coming along."
